Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO ACT) would be the most comprehensive rewrite of U.S. Labor Law in decades. It would eliminate Right-to-Work laws, impose new penalties on Employers who retaliate against Union Organizing, crack down on Worker Mis-classification (like Temporary Flexible Workers), and establish new rules so that employers cannot delay negotiating Collective Bargaining contracts. Introduced by Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va., in May, it has already been passed in the House with 224 Votes, 219 Democrats and 5 Republicans.
40 Democratic Senators support S 1306, the PRO Act in the Senate. However, Senator leader Mitch McConnel refuses to debate the PRO ACT. Rep. Mark Pocan, the Progressive Caucus Co-Chair, is stimied by McConnel’s refusal to debate the PRO Act. Dan Mauer, Director of Government Affairs, and President Chris Shelton of the Communication Workers of America (CWA), are duly frustrated by undemocratic schemes by Mbitch McConnel. CWA has 700,000 Members committed to passing S 1306 in the Senate. Other Union Leaders strongly supporting the PRO ACT are James Hoffa, General President of the Teamsters IBT (1.4 Million Members), Mary Kay Henry, President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU – 1.5 Million Members), Randi Weingarten, President of the 1.6 Million American Federation of Teachers, Lee Saunders of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union (1.7 Million AFSCME Members), and President Rory Gamble of the 400,000 United Automobile Workers (UAW). Also ILWU APWU, UFCW, UE, NNU, TWU, ATU ++. 6-9/2020
